Harkness Tower was built between 1917 and 1921 at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut as Yale continued to embrace modern Gothic. Yale, a private university was founded in 1701, following the first two institutions of higher education in the United States: Harvard University and the College of William and Mary. Yale has an impressive list of numbers as of 2008 such as a $22.9 billion endowment and over 12.5 million volumes making Yale the world's second-largest university library system, according to the university.
